The month of August was packed with exciting and productive activities for ESA FKIP Universitas Riau 2023/2024. From promoting digital literacy to welcoming new students through PKKMB and fostering creativity with contests, ESA members have had numerous opportunities to grow both academically and socially. Prepare to be amazed by the incredible work programs brought to life by the Membership Division, Communication and Informatics Division, and Interest & Talent Division.
Here's a look back at the key events that took place in August in chronological order
1. LITERACY TASKS
Literacy Task in Semester Break
August 7th, 2024 - The Membership Development Division of ESA FKIP Universitas Riau held a literacy task as part of their semester break activities, aimed at enhancing knowledge during free time. Members were tasked with watching a provided film and noting important points in a specified format. The submission period for the assignment was from July 5th to July 15th, 2024.
This literacy task is aligned with modern literacy concepts, which include not only reading and writing but also digital literacy, such as processing information from multimedia. By encouraging students to engage with videos and take notes, the program fostered analytical and communication skills essential for both personal and social goals.
2. KEHIDUPAN KAMPUS MAHASISWA BARU (PKKMB) UNIVERSITAS RIAU 2024
Moments of PKKMB Universitas Riau 2024
August 8th, 2024 - Universitas Riau's PKKMB 2024 event, held from August 6th to 8th, introduced new students to university life. Themed "Intelektual Muda Berkompeten, Berprestasi, dan Berjiwa Entrepreneur Menuju Indonesia Emas 2045", with the tagline "MENYALA UNRIKU!". The event aimed to prepare students for 21st-century competencies, including critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving. The first day, August 6th, 2024, began with PKKMB at the University level, starting with the handover of new students to the Dean of the Faculty at UNRI, followed by faculty and program-specific activities.
The second day, August 7th, 2024, was continued with PKKMB at the Faculty level. This activity to introduce campuss in faculty level as to motivate teacher candidates Becoming a Prospective Teacher who is a True Learner who is Skilled, Agile and Tenacious. The third day, August 8th, 2024, which was carried out by the level of English Education Study Program FKIP Universitas Riau. The agendas on the last day were introduction to the lecturers of the English Education Study Program and the ESA (English Student Association) by the committee. An introduction to the English Student Association (ESA), aiming to instill intellectual competence in welcoming Indonesia's 2045 vision.
3. CREATIVE VIDEO CONTEST FOR ENGLISH FRESHMEN (CREVES) 2024
Moments of Creative Video Contest for English Freshmen (CREVES) 2024
August 10th, 2024 - ESA FKIP Universitas Riau, through its Communication and Informatics Division, organized the Creative Video Contest (CREVES) 2024, under the theme; "Building the Confidence and Champion Mentality for English Freshmen". Encouraging new English freshmen to express their creativity through self-introduction videos. The contest aimed to build confidence and champion mentality by having participants share why they chose English Education and provide tips for learning English. Videos were submitted via Instagram Reels or TikTok, with a deadline of August 5th, 2024.
Winners were announced during PKKMB at the study program level. Muhammad Varrel won Best Video, Novi Anastasha for Most Creative, and Seva Natasya for Most Favorite. The contest encouraged active participation from all freshmen, helping them showcase their creativity and confidence early in their university journey.
4. MINBA’S WEEKLY ON AUGUST
Moments of Minba's Weekly on August
August 15th, 2024 - The Interest and Talent Division of ESA FKIP Universitas Riau continued its "Minba Weekly" program in August, focusing on sports activities to foster camaraderie among English Study Program students. On August 15th and 29th, 2024, the division organized futsal games at the FKIP Basketball Court, with each session starting at 4:00 p.m.
The goal of Minba Weekly is to promote physical fitness and teamwork while allowing students to unwind outside the classroom environment. Through these regular sports activities, students strengthen bonds, stay active, and build a sense of community within the English Education Study Program.
Moments of Maba Gathering 2024
August 31th, 2024 - The "Maba Gathering" 2024, organized by the Membership Development Division of ESA FKIP Universitas Riau, was a significant event held at the Mini Stadium Riau University on August 31st, 2024. The gathering commenced at 7:30 AM and concluded successfully, leaving a positive mark on all attendees. Aimed at welcoming new students of the English Education class of 2024, the event offered a platform for them to get familiar with the program and foster meaningful connections. Beyond introducing academic aspects, the gathering emphasized the values of unity, collaboration, and forging long-lasting relationships. These objectives were accomplished through a series of interactive sessions, team-building activities, and discussions that helped the freshmen adjust to university life.
The event is an annual tradition that helps new students immerse themselves in the essence of the English Education program. In addition to its academic and social benefits, MABA Gathering serves as a launching pad for freshmen to create bonds that may last throughout their time at university. The tradition of MABA Gathering has a history of success, with previous editions receiving glowing feedback. With a carefully designed agenda focused on interaction and inclusion, this year’s MABA Gathering continues that legacy, marking the beginning of an enriching academic journey for the new batch of students.
August has been a month of growth, learning, and collaboration for ESA FKIP Universitas Riau. Whether through enhancing literacy, welcoming new students, or engaging in sports and creative competitions, each activity helped to strengthen the bonds within our community. We look forward to continuing this momentum in the months ahead as we work together to achieve even greater things.
